When it comes to roof materials, homeowners have plenty to choose from and each material type comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Below are some of the most common roof material types that are available.
Asphalt shingle
This is one of the most common roof materials used. It owes its popularity to the fact that is it very cost-effective. It is also available in different kinds and colours giving homeowners plenty of options to customize their homes. If you have an asphalt shingle roof and some areas get damaged, you don’t have to replace your whole roof. Only the damaged parts. It is also easy to install and replace asphalt shingle roofs.
Clay Tiles
If you live in an area that is prone to fires, then clay tiles are a good choice for your roof. This is because clay tiles are non-combustible making it ideal for very hot and dry places. One of the downsides to using clay tiles though is that they damage easily.
Concrete Tiles
If you are planning to have flat roofing for your house, then using concrete tiles is highly recommended. Since they are made from concrete, these kinds of tiles are more durable than clay tiles. It may not be suitable though for some home styles so better ask your contractor before getting concrete tiles.
Metal Roof
Metal roofing is also a very popular choice when it comes to roof materials because it is very lightweight. The most common type of metal roof is tin, but you can also get metal roof made from copper, aluminium and even steel. One of the best things about this kind of material is that it can be used as a replacement to an existing roof without removing the old roof.
