When You Should Consider Re-Roofing a House or Commercial Building
If your roof is falling apart and you think that it is time to get a new one, you should know that you generally have two options. You can either re-roof your house or you can replace your roof completely. Many people choose re-roofing because it is considered as the most economical option. But to know when you should consider re-roofing a house or commercial building, you need to consider other factors. Re-roofing is actually not an option that is available to everyone. You need to know when it is appropriate to re-roof or not in order to make a good decision.
What is re-roofing
Before you consider re-roofing, you need to know what it is. It is actually the process of layering one set of shingles over a set of existing shingles. One of the things that you need to know about re-roofing is that it can only be done once. When you already have two layers of shingles in place, you cannot opt to re-roof for a one more. Re-roofing is a much faster process than replacement because there is no tear off. It is also much less expensive for the same reason.
When is it a good idea
If you have a roof that is nearing the end of its lifespan but is still in good shape overall, then you should consider re-roofing instead of replacing the whole roof. To replace a roof that is still in good shape will be wasteful and unnecessary. If the only problem you have with your roof are minor ones such as small leaks then you should opt for re-roofing instead of replacement. If you have a major problem though like major water damage, missing shingles or a huge amount of moss and mildew, then the better choice is to replace the roof completely.
